Emma Bunker Receives Scholarship at Randolph-Macon Academy

2011 Dec 1

Emma Geraldine Bunker, the daughter of Rev. Jonathan Bunker and Dr. Susan J. Gawalt of Berryville, has received the Laura Stanley Scholarship at Randolph-Macon Academy. The Stanley Scholarship was established in 1994 to provide meritorious students with a financial award to attend Randolph-Macon Academy. Scholarships are awarded each year based upon overall merit. The scholarships are named in honor of Laura Stanley, career teacher and educator, who believed that all children should have the opportunity to be educated. She left half of her estate to Randolph-Macon Academy to establish a scholarship to help young men and women earn their education at R-MA.

Emma was formally presented with the scholarship during a ceremony held during Fall Family Weekend on November 5, 2011. She is an eighth grade student at Randolph-Macon Academy Middle School.

Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA), founded in 1892, is a college-preparatory, coeducational boarding school for students in grades 6 through 12. Students in grades 9-12 participate in R-MA's 91st Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), which is currently recognized as an Outstanding Unit with Merit, and have the opportunity to participate in the Academy's unique flight program. R-MA is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is located in Front Royal, VA.
