John Ryan Backo Receives Community Service Award at Randolph-Macon Academy Middle School

Randolph-Macon Academy Middle School students served in their local community during the 2013-14 school year through roadside clean-up, coat drives, Penny Wars to raise money to battle hunger, recycling programs, and a number of other ways. Together, the small community served a total of 1,879 hours.

John Ryan Backo of Warrenton was recognized for his contributions when he received the Community Service Award during the end-of-year awards ceremony held May 28, 2014. John was also recognized for being one of the top volunteers of the year, as he served the second highest number of hours in the school.

John, who is the son of Karen and Jerry Smith of Warrenton, was an eighth grade studentat R-MA Middle School during the 2013-14 school year.
